Artist: Daniel Gill Materials: Sandstone Artist statement: While scanning the Helidon sandstone quarry in search of the perfect stone for this sculpture, Daniel discovered a six-tonne block with exceptional colour. Carved with the intention of belonging to a public space, the sculpture invites rest, reflection, and play - a meeting place where children can explore and let their creativity run wild as the octopus comes to life within the landscape. About the artist: Daniel has spent more than three decades carving stone, driven by a passion to turn an ancient material into something alive with character and meaning. His body of work spans public, educational, and private spaces, where his sculptures are known for their strength, safety and lasting beauty. Daniel creates artworks - pieces sculpted to be touched, lived with and appreciated for generations.
