Balance

Artist: Gerry McMahon Materials: Steel - purple Artist statement: Balance is a vertical exploration of movement, constructed from a series of steel "blades" that carry the sculptural form. This panel-based design is intentionally whimsical, allowing the piece to be viewed from all angles while casting ever-shifting shadows across its own structure. Painted a vibrant purple to celebrate the dynamics of performance, the sculpture interacts with both natural and artificial light to highlight the tension and grace of the three figures in their collective balance. About the artist: Gerry’s art practice is based on the 15 years of skills and experience acquired from his previous occupation as a sheet metal tradesman, has been developed and strengthened with a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied Design and a Certificate in Small Business Management. His practice has expanded to include a variety of clientele and he has produced many successful commissions, both in the public and private sectors. Gerry has dedicated much of his practice to being involved with the community in the fields of research, consultation and in some cases running community workshops.
